Paderborn University has appointed Dr. Stefan Sauer, Managing Director of SICP - Software Innovation Campus Paderborn, as an adjunct professor. In February 2023, the Dean of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Computer Science and Mathematics (EIM), Prof. Peter Schreier, personally presented him with the certificate signed by University President Prof. Dr. Birgitt Riegraf. With this award, the university recognizes Prof. Dr. Sauer's outstanding achievements in research and teaching. Prof. Dr. Sauer is the first adjunct professor in the Department of Computer Science at Paderborn University.

Prof. Dr. Sauer has been working as a scientist in the field of software engineering at Paderborn University for more than 25 years. He previously studied computer science at the Carl von Ossietzky University in Oldenburg, graduating in 1997. From 1994 to 1995, he was a visiting scholar at the Computer Science Department of the University of Southern California in Los Angeles for one year. In his dissertation, he dealt with the systematic development of model-based methods (method engineering). Since 2014, Prof. Dr. Sauer has been responsible for the basic lecture Software Design, and since 2018 he has been offering the course Software Engineering, which consists of a lecture, exercises and a practical course.

Prof. Dr. Sauer's work focuses on the research areas of model-based and model-driven software engineering (MDSE, MBSE) and human-centered software engineering (HCSE). He is concerned with the modeling of systems and processes, especially software architecture and software modeling, low-code programming, user participation in software development processes (end-user development, EUD) and the integration of methods of software engineering and interaction design (e.g. user-centered design) for the development of interactive and socio-technical systems. He also applies these methods in the field of software reengineering for the modernization and evolution of systems.

He started in 1997 as a research assistant in the Department of Database and Information Systems under the direction of Prof. Dr. Gregor Engels. From 2005 to 2017, he was Managing Director of the scientific institution s-lab - Software Quality Lab of the EIM faculty. Since 2016, he has been Managing Director of the central scientific institution Software Innovation Lab of Paderborn University at the SICP - Software Innovation Campus Paderborn.

Prof. Dr. Sauer is currently the spokesperson of the Architectures Section and a member of the steering committee of the Software Reengineering Section of the German Informatics Society (GI), Secretary of Working Group 13.2 "Methodology for User-Centred System Design" of the International Federation for Information Processing (IFIP) and a member of the Steering Committee of the IEEE Symposium on Visual Languages and Human-Centric Computing (VL/HCC).
