Seamless Mobility innovation area

Travelling to the nearest train station with an autonomous shuttle vehicle at the touch of a button, changing to the next train without waiting and covering the last mile by rental bike or e-scooter. The target image of future mobility is sustainable, user-centred, efficient mobility that is available everywhere and at all times. It seems clear that individual mobility will become less dependent on private cars and concepts such as on-demand transport and shared mobility will become increasingly popular. Seamless mobility chains are required. However, the challenges of transforming the mobility ecosystem are still very great, especially away from urban centres.
This is precisely where the "Seamless Mobility" innovation area comes in and addresses the socio-technical challenges of the mobility transition. Research is being conducted into how enabling technologies (e.g. artificial intelligence, digital platforms, the Internet of Things and edge and cloud computing) can pave the way for connected mobility. We not only research the technical aspects, but also focus on the behaviour and needs of users. The issues are solved in an interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary manner together with stakeholders from business, science and politics.

Goals and visions

In the Seamless Mobility innovation area, we are striving for a holistic, socio-technical transformation of mobility. The comprehensive integration of new technologies and a focus on the needs and acceptance of society are crucial to achieving these goals.
