Prof. Dr Daniel Beverungen, holder of the Chair in Business Informatics, specialising in Management Information Systems, has taken on the role of Academic Director of the ‘Shared Services’ working group of the Schmalenbach Society for Business Administration (Schmalenbach-Gesellschaft für Betriebswirtschaft e. V.). As the oldest and most established association, the Schmalenbach Society provides an important forum for business administration scholarship and practice and constitutes a unique network. The Smart Services working group brings together around 30 leading figures from renowned companies and academia, and is dedicated to addressing current issues relating to the design, management and further development of shared service organisations. Key areas of focus include process standardisation, digital transformation, sustainability, resilience and the use of innovative technologies such as generative AI. This provides the Chair with a wide range of points of connection: the working group’s areas of focus align directly with the Chair’s key research areas on digital services and business process management. Collaboration within the working group offers the opportunity to channel academic insights into concrete innovation projects, whilst simultaneously addressing current challenges, potential solutions and development needs arising from business practice and examining them in depth through academic studies. In this way, the faculty is further expanding its collaboration with leading companies and providing new impetus for the digital transformation of service organisations.
