The HeatTransPlan research project successfully completes its first milestone

The subject of the work to date has been the determination of requirements with regard to technical and data-related requirements in order to be able to optimize and control energy requirements through the systematic use and optimization of excess heat and heat requirements in industrial production processes.

At the first milestone meeting of the HeatTransPlan project, the partners involved presented the results of the requirements analysis for the areas of "modelling", "optimization", "high-temperature PCM storage" and "decision support system". One important finding is that the required data basis will represent a bottleneck in the companies. Against this background, the "Modeling" sub-project is of particular importance in the project, in which data gaps are to be closed with the help of process mining. On this basis, the decision support system is intended to provide companies with an initial orientation on the potential and feasibility of optimizing their energy requirements and, with the appropriate data basis, concrete proposals for measures.

The project

The project, funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection, aims to utilize waste heat from industrial processes with the help of robust heat pump and storage solutions for a process heat range above 100 degrees Celsius. As a result, a digital decision support system based on energy and production data will determine an optimal heat utilization path.

Companies have the opportunity to get involved in the project as case study partners with their individual case study. Companies interested in contributing a case study can contact either Michael Kemkes (mkemkes@innozentowl.de) or Dr. Florian Schlosser (florian.schlosser@upb.de). For generally interested companies, there will be an offer in the form of a moderated experience exchange round from the beginning of 2025, in which current results and developments in the field of waste heat utilization will also be informed and discussed. Interested companies can already contact Michael Kemkes (mkemkes@innozentowl.de).
